Olympia Junior Programs has been active in the Olympia community since 1940. It is a non-profit organization that is part of a national movement in children’s theater. For more than 80 years, Olympia Junior Programs has worked in cooperation with area schools in providing performances during school hours for students in first through sixth grade. Olympia Junior Programs is unique within children’s theater organizations because it continues to operate as an all-volunteer program.

WHO WE ARE: A non-profit organization of community volunteers doing year-round behind the scenes work.

WHOM WE SERVE: Elementary students in Thurston County and nearby counties. Our shows are specifically selected for ages 5 and up.

WHEN: Performances are scheduled in late winter and spring. Each show is scheduled for five days, with performances are at 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM on school days, and lasting about one hour.

WHAT: Most seasons three shows are offered; one show for students in first through sixth grade; one show for students in first through third grade; and one show for students in fourth through sixth grade. For details on this year’s shows, click “here”. OJP contracts with professional companies for age-appropriate productions relevant to curriculum. Works based on literature or history are often used. Companies present a program that is technically more complex than could be presented at an assembly in a school setting.

WHERE: Performances are held at The Washington Center for the Performing Arts (WCPA), 512 S. Washington Street, Olympia WA 98501
