The Olympia Junior Programs volunteers have developed certain procedures and rules to facilitate maximum safety and efficiency in moving hundreds of students in and out of the theater.
- If you have a student with special needs, either use the “Contact Form“ or send Karen Edwards, 2nd Vice President, an e-mail prior to the day your school is to attend a play. That student may not be able to sit with the class, but an adult escort and a student friend may be seated with the special needs student.
- Give students instructions and have them use the restrooms before leaving school.
- Be ready to exit the bus promptly, in single file, when instructed to do so by an OJP bus coordinator or parent volunteer.
- Parent volunteer ushers will escort students into the theater and seat them in the order in which buses arrive. Follow your usher!
- Classes are seated in the theater according to prearranged seating. Do not assign buddies or small sub-groups as this may cause delays.
- Your school may be seated in a different area for each performance. Seeing shows from different vantage points gives students a varied theater experience.
- If you have questions about seating, first allow your class to be seated by the usher, then speak to the usher about your situation.
- The volunteer ushers who help with your school’s classes will escort any student who needs to use the restroom during the performance, will stay with that student, and return the student to his/her seat.
